Darren and I have been trying to take short day trips to different areas that are close so I can explore and take pictures to use in my art.
I am in no way a professional photographer. I just like taking pictures of different areas that surprise me, show me a different mood or feeling, or that spark my imagination. It is very Pixie-like behavior.
I thought about putting these up on Facebook, but I really didn’t want to do that whole “share everything on social media” thing when I could be sharing here on the blog. I’ll be posting these a week or two after our trips happen.
This blog post about Bald River Falls is actually going to cover two separate trips to the falls.
We went out for the first time on a very crowded Sunday. There were lots and lots of people because it was our first cool Sunday of the year and it was not as successful a trip as it probably could have been.
I got about six shots before the camera battery died. Unfortunately, I had turned the camera on that morning to check the battery. I put the camera into the camera bag, thinking I was in the clear, but I forgot to turn the camera off. Then we discovered that I had left my extra battery back home.
We did enjoy a little time away that day. We did learn that we are not going to be taking our day trips on Sunday when everyone else is able to take a day trip after church. We did learn to double-check the camera bag.
The second time we went to Bald River Falls was on a Wednesday. I packed a lunch before we set out. Darren was kind enough to get a battery charger that works with the USB in the car, just in case. I made sure to bring all of the camera batteries and all of the memory cards I had available. I also had the tripod and a few extra snacks.
We wandered our way around different parts of Bald River Falls and got to stop at a lot of beautiful overlooks and scenic pullouts. There were still a few motorcyclists enjoying the winding roads, and several couples meandering about the overlooks and pullouts. But we did have some really good quality time together, and I got to take some really fun photos that will be useful in some future art projects.
I am not going to post all 302 pictures that were taken on those two trips because I was playing with shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. Some of them turned out horribly and I really don’t want to share the unsuccessful experiments. For now, here are the top eleven photos from both of our Bald River Falls trips.
